NON-GM Supporting Documentation

Holistic Valley has a strict non-GM policy. Our main suppliers also share our values on this matter, however for your assurance we are also adding additional information here for selected products that are particularly prone to having GM origins.

Ascorbic Acid
There is much information on the internet about Ascorbic Acid powder being Genetically Modified, particularly that sourced from China. Of course we checked with our supplier that the product we get from them is not GM. Please see the following document of confirmation:-
Ascorbic Acid Helbei GMO

Vegetable Glycerine
This is another product that is frequently from a genetically modified source. The vast majority on the market are derived from EU Rapeseed which is by far the most Genetically Modified crop. We always ensure our supplies are non-GM origin, at time of writing our current vegetable glycerine is sourced from a UK company that certifies it is non-gm origin and is actually derived from coconut/palm oil.

Neti Salt (PDV)

Technically known as PDV (Pure Dried Vacuum) salt but branded as Neti Salt, this is a processed and very pure form of salt, suitable for a variety of uses including food use.

We sourced this product specifically as it has a very low additive amount (maximum 15ppm, typically 6.8ppm of E535 anti-caking agent) so it is enough to prevent caking up often associated with other finely processed salts but with a minimum additive count.

Be aware that some supermarket table salts can have hundreds of ppm (parts per million) of additives, sometimes up to 2,000.

Magnesium Chloride Flakes

Our flakes are ideal for transdermal magnesium use (absorbed through the skin) by adding to bath or foot spa or by diluting in water to make an oil that can be applied to the skin. This is fast growing in popularity as a means of increasing body magnesium levels without the drawbacks (and side-effects) of consuming magnesium supplements.

Our Magnesium Chloride Flakes are from one of the most renowned and pure sources in the world, The Dead Sea.

While there are other sources even more pure than these (such as underground sources like the Zechstein sea), these are often much more expensive for comparatively little difference in the product. (Compare the specifications below to see ours are already very pure). However, there are some sources of magnesium flakes to avoid, such as those from salts lakes in come parts of the USA. These have been found to be polluted with many times the permissible level of Mercury and other toxins.

FAQ

Q) It says not for internal use, why not?

A) We do not recommend taking magnesium salts internally as they can cause stomach upset. Transdermal application (through the skin) is well proven and established for boosting magnesium levels and we have experienced this personally ourselves.

Epsom Salts (FCC Grade)

Although we have sourced the purest source of Epsom salts we can find (FCC grade) which is superior to food grade, we do not normally recommend internal consumption of Epsom salts other than when specified for therapeutic or detox use. To boost magnesium levels, Magnesium Chloride Flakes, transdermally absorbed through the skin is much safer and more effective option.

Bentonite Clays

Bentonite clay is renowned for its amazing swelling properties and detox potential.

We currently offer 2 types of bentonite clay, a sodium bentonite with a high pH, sourced from Wyoming, USA and a calcium bentonite clay from Spain.

FAQ

Q) Can I take bentonite clay internally?

A) Many places recommend internal consumption of bentonite clay for detox and other purposes. Although we have used it internally ourselves, you will have to make your own decision regarding this as it is not specifically classed as food grade, even though they may be from the same sources as others elsewhere class as food grade. Bentonite Clay is accepted as GRAS (Generally Recognised As Safe) for internal consumption which means that there are not lots of people experiencing severe problems by consuming it, However you should be aware that by its nature of being a strong attractor to toxins, it already has a level of toxins absorbed. Our belief is that these are strongly bound to the clay structure and should not easily be released into the body, but extra caution should be taken, particularly in case of pregnancy for example.
